Jute garden twine for tying in climbers, staking herbaceous stems and training wall shrubs; soft enough to use without a second thought, and strong enough to hold through a full growing season.
The most common mistake with plant ties is using something too rigid or too thin. Wire cuts in, and synthetic string can hold moisture against a stem in a way that encourages rot. Jute twine sits gently against the plant, moves a little as the stem thickens, and does not need to be checked and loosened the way a harder tie does.
Tying in is worth doing properly the first time. A stem that is left to flop and then staked late rarely recovers its shape, and a tie put on too tightly in spring will be doing damage by midsummer. Jute gives you enough to work with, loops easily into a figure-of-eight between stem and cane, and holds without slipping.
When the season is over and you are clearing the beds, there is no need to sort the twine from the plant material. It will break down in the compost along with everything else, which saves a good deal of picking through.
- Soft jute construction; will not cut into flower stems or soft growth
- Suitable for tying climbers, staking perennials and training shrubs
- Compostable at end of use; can go directly into the compost heap
- Useful beyond the garden: kitchen, garage and craft work
- Apply as a figure-of-eight tie to keep stem clear of cane
Keep a ball in your pocket during the growing season and you will find you use it more than you expect. It is the sort of thing that earns its place quietly, doing small jobs well from the first warm weeks through to the autumn cut-back.
