Frost protection fleece is one of those things you reach for more often than you expect; a roll kept in the shed will earn its place from the first cold snap of autumn through to the last frost of spring.
This listing is for the 30gsm weight, which sits in the middle of the range and suits both winter and early spring use. It lets light, rainwater and air pass through freely, so plants beneath it continue to photosynthesise and breathe without any intervention from you. The warmth and humidity that build up underneath encourage germination and steady growth during the weeks when outdoor temperatures are still unreliable.
The 30gsm weight offers more insulation than the lighter 17gsm fleece, which is cut for spring alone, and rather more than the 50gsm, which is the one to reach for in a hard winter. For most kitchen gardens and allotments, the 30gsm is the weight that sees the most use across the year. It will also take the edge off hail and wind, which can do as much damage to young brassicas and salad crops as a frost.
The fleece is UV-stabilised, which matters if you are leaving it in place for weeks at a time rather than draping it overnight.
- Frost protection fleece, 30gsm weight
- Sheet size: 1.1 metres x 10 metres
- Suited to winter and early spring use
- Permeable to light, rainwater and air
- UV-stabilised for extended outdoor use
- 17gsm and 50gsm weights available separately

Lay it directly over crops or drape it over hoops; either way, anchor the edges well or the wind will find them. Put it down before the cold arrives rather than after, and you will find it earns back its cost in a single season.
